Spring Snows – Mudbowl 2010!!!!

by Tony

The Spring 2010 Snow Goose Season here at Habitat Flats is wrapping up.  We are still killing a few scattered little pockets of juvies, but for the most part it’s over.  It was a different spring than most with some challenging weather conditions, but good times were still had!   I can’t ever remember more days in the spring with no wind to marginal winds.  The weather went from freezing temps to very warm in a short period of time and 2010 will be remembered as a MUDBOWL!!!!!!!!!!!   With the extreme mud and water standing in the fields, the camera was left in the truck on most days…but here are a few!!

Thanks to all of our helpers and hunters that made it such a memorable spring! We are busy booking our Fall 2010 dates, as well as Spring 2011….anybody that is interested, please try to get in touch with us!  The sooner the better to ensure the schedule still has openings.

Blinds with snow covers dug into the snow….no chance they will see us…time to enjoy the show!!

We had the opportunity to have young, Levi Haskamp, with us on his first Canada Goose hunt…..first hunt or not, he handled his little 20 gauge like a true veteran!!

Canadas….JT’s First!

by Tony

When the snow is on the ground, the snow covers are on the blinds…..Canadas are in trouble!!

JT and Cole were all smiles in the mudroom with anticipation of feet down Canadas…

Feet down is what they got…and they got to see alot of it!!!

Kent and Brad with some straight shooting!

Randy Richardson, the camp manager here at Habitat Flats, was one proud father when his son, Jayden, killed his first two geese ever!!

JT and Cole’s little 20 gauges didn’t have any trouble dispatching feet down honkers.   These will be memories that none of us will soon forget!

These aren’t kids anymore…they are bona fide goose hunters!!

Canadas…Young Guns!

by Tony

Upland guide Frosty, with his first ever Canada Goose…followed up shortly by his second!

Can’t beat greenheads in the sunshine with a little snow on…

Schupp’s turn…

Uh oh….that’s going to leave a mark!!!!

Not sure what this one was, but it’s going on the wall!!  It had all the markings of an adult blue goose, but the colors were completely washed out to a very light grey…

Cole Daugherity and his first two honkers ever!!  Not sure who was happier, Cole or Dan!
