Quail Management

by Aaron

Habitat Flats is proud to announce we are now booking quail hunts for the Fall 2009 season!!   We try to supplement the wild quail population with the use of Surrogators.  These are not penned raised birds that are dizzied up and placed out. We raise 250 quail every five weeks from spring to early fall.  Through careful habitat management practices providing proper cover and food, excellent fair chase hunting can still be had!  Contact us now to book dates for the fall!

One thing we have found with mallard hunting is when you find good flooded willows, you find mallards!  The amount of invertebrates that are found around the root wads of willow trees is incredible.  Our habitat management practices do not solely pertain to raising crops and moist soil foods for waterfowl, but also providing and supplementing natural waterfowl magnets.  The weekend was spent transplanting willow trees that will allow for excellent hunting opportunities for many years to come!
